8. When Modern Science isn’t Modern Enough

If you live in the western world in a reasonably populated area, you already realise that there is so much more going around you than you can see, feel, taste, smell or hear. We realise that if we put our hands out in front of us even just a few centimeters apart from each other, it may not look like there is anything in between them. Ask a child though and they will tell you that there is nothing between our hands.

We know however that there is air between our hands ... the physical stuff that we need to breathe in order to stay alive! We see nothing, smell, nothing, feel nothing (unless there is a breeze), taste nothing and hear nothing - but what is there is vital for us to stay alive.

But we also know that there is more than just air between our hands. With devices like our phones, internet routers and radios we discover that between our hands there is access to another world. We take this for granted today and the people who have been born into this world of technology would probably never even consider the wonder of it. Just think about it for a moment:

Imagine just 300 years ago telling someone that they can see what is happening on the other side of the world through an invisible portal that exists between our hands as we hold them up in front of us. Not only can we see what is happening there now, but we can also see things that have happened in the past! But it gets even more incredible ... we can speak face to face with someone on the other side of the planet!

Scientists of that time however would tell us that this is impossible to do ... least of all because sound travels quite slowly over large distances like that ... much slower than the speed of light ... so it would be impossible to make that work even if we could somehow project our voices that far.

It is amazing what actually exists in the space between our hands - this space in which our senses tell us that nothing exists. Access to entertainment, music, communication, history, information and communication!

Just imagine trying to convince people in the remotest villages of Africa today that this is true ... without a radio or a phone (or phone network) good luck!

When aetheist scientists think that something is impossible because it doesn’t align with the worldview that they have formed as a result the facts they have discovered through observation, experimentation and validation, they can respond with dismissive and even derogatory language. But this doesn’t mean they are right, just because they have their science to back up their thinking.

For example, “Albert Einstein colorfully dismissed quantum entanglement—the ability of separated objects to share a condition or state—as “spooky action at a distance.””

While scientists still don’t understand quantum entanglement, they have learned how to measure it and have now done numerous experiments prove it to be true. What happens, when we have not yet learned how to measure the things that we might dismissively call ‘spooky’?

There is still much that is unknown and there are also things that the Bible says, that if meant to be taken literally (which is often not the case in the Bible) are difficult to reconcile. However there are also things that used to be hard to reconcile, that modern science now gives us more insight into.

ARE YOU SURE ... that science has advanced to a place of bringing certainty about the way the world works and why it is as it is?
