Using Einstein’s theory of relativity and our recently discovered cosmological data, along with 12th century interpretation of Genesis 1 ... orthodox Jewish physicist, Gerald Schroeder uses a scientific approach to claim / show that science and the Bible are both correct about the age of the universe!
To show that this is not just trying to make the Bible fit with the scientific data, Schroeder uses interpretations of scriptures from the Genesis 1 only from prior to modern science such as Maimonides (12th century) and Nahmanides (13th century).
He proposes that according to Einstein’s theory of relativity and what we know of the Big Bang, the relativity of time makes both the 6 days and 15 billion years correct, depending where you observe from.
It is 15 billion years as looking back from the space-time co-ordinates of the earth. However, from the perspective of the Big Bang, the time would be experienced very differently. Because the space of the universe has expanded from the singularity of the Big Bang to the massive expanding size of the universe today, physics textbooks will now tell you that the relationship from time from the beginning of stable matter relative to the “view of time” today is a factor of a million million. My understanding is that space has enlarged so much that light takes much longer to reach our location now than it would have in the beginning before that stretching of space.
Five and a half days from them beginning to the creation of Adam, before the Bible shifts it’s calendar from the cosmic calendar to earth calendar would be five and half million million days (12 zero’s). Divide that by 365 days in a year and the answer is ... 15 billion years!
Check out his article on his website (http://geraldschroeder.com/wordpress/?page_id=53) to better understand this or read his book ‘The Science of God’ to better understand this concept. There is more to be understood and he explains it in an understandable way in his book.
This is not to say that his thinking is correct, but only to say that it is strange to say that modern science disproves the Bible ... so again ... ARE YOU SURE?
