S14. More Love Would Make the World a Better Place!

OK ... this is not quoting any science or any studies, however it seems that the majority of people believe that the world would be a better place if there was more love in it.
The Bible tells us that God is love (the problem is that we have turned from Him) and that He loves us. It also says that we love because she first loved us (1 John 4:19).
The problem is that the culture of our western society is more interested in our rights and what is best for me.
True love is selfless. Jesus was the greatest example of love and described it as giving your life for someone else. (John 15:13). In fact the Bible says that He died for us even when we were enemies to Him. I tend to think of the purity of the love is ‘off our scale’ of how we love.
It seems to me that the clostest we get to this kind of love is when a parent sees their new-born child - this human being is a stranger, and yet I have been told over and over again by new parents that they experience something that they had never experienced before. They love this little ‘stranger’ and would give their life for him or her. That’s true love!
Some, who don’t know this love because they have not given birth to the child yet, can justify an abortion by all kinds of ‘logical’ justifications because in some way, they don’t want the responsibility of having this child. It is not good for their career or their budget or some other reason. The movement is called ‘pro-choice’ - that I should be allowed to do what I want because it is my body, so if I want to abort this new life I should be able to.
Ironically, this self-centeredness stands in complete contrast to pure selfless love ... the love that can only be experienced by having that child. I am not saying that every person experiences this love when they have a child, and that this love does not become a choice or that having children is not always the easiest thing to do, but what I am saying is that abortion - the killing of an unborn child is murder, and yet justified by facts and is the opposite of love.
As a side-note, we have discovered what causes pregnancy ... yes, I know that is a bombshell. God has shown us the best way in which to do that - in a committed, loving (that selfless love, not the feeling of love) relationship that is designed to raise that child called marriage. Of course, we prefer the risk of pregnancy for the feeling that sex gives because we prefer to live in a way that is selfish - all about us feeling good (unless you want to tell me that you have sex before marriage for the benefit of the other person). As another side note, the best sex is when both people are focussed on giving the other pleasure. Or we live in a loveless marriage because both people are more interested in themselves being happy, than loving the other person so they will be happy ... which by the way means they would both be happy. Imagine if everyone lived with love. The world would be a better place.
God is love. We have turned from Him and His ways and therefore live more self-centered life and wish there was more love in the world. Sorry, that ended up being a long side note and one that deserves a whole book on it’s own ... one that I am sure someone has already written. The point is that it takes a step of faith to experience that selfless love. But love is what the world needs more of.
It takes a step of faith to experience life in relationship with God, but it doesn’t need us to ignore the truth ... in fact, I believe that genuine truth will always lead you to Jesus.
ARE YOU SURE ... that modern culture is disproving the the wisdom of the Bible?
